1. Plug one end of the supplied RJ45 network cable into your broadband router and the other end into the port labeled WAN on the back of the VoIP adapter.
2. Plug your standard phone into the pabx adapter.
3. Plug the pabx adapter into the port labeled phone on the back of the VoIP adapter.
4. Plug in the mains power adapter.

 

If you do not have enough free ports on the back of your broadband router or hub you can daisy chain your PC’s network connection off the back of you voip adapter as follows:

5. Plug the supplied RJ45 network cable into your broadband router or hub and into the port labeled WAN on the back of the VoIP adapter.
6. Plug your RJ45 network cable from your PC into the port labeled LAN on the back of the VoIP adapter.
7. Plug you standard phone into the pabx adapter
8. Plug the pabx adapter into the port labeled phone on the back of the VoIP adapter.
9. Plug in the mains power adapter.

The VoIP adapter will arrive pre-configured and you will be able to make and receive calls straight out of the box.

 

 

 

Optionaly you can connect the VoIP adapter to your normal BT telephone line so as well as making and recieving calls on your new VoIP number you can make and recieve calls on your normal telephone line using the same telephone.

Simply connect a standard telelphone cable from the BT socket into the port labled line on the side of the adapter.

To make a call using your standard PSTN service dial *00 before dialing the number.

 

Useful VoIP numbers


Use the following numbers to check the quality and various settings of your Northway VoIP account.
901 - Check your credit balance
902 - Welcome message
903 - Check your User ID
904 - Echo Test (for latency checking)
905 - Audio Test. After the beep record your voice and receive it back to ensure two-way audio communication works properly
906 - Turns balance announcement when making calls on / off*
907 - Turns low credit announcement when making calls on / off*
908 - Check your current Caller ID display
9123 - UK Date & Time


* Dialling 906 will turn the balance announcement ON. This means that when you dial a number (before connecting) you will hear what your current balance is. To turn the balance announcement OFF, simply dial 906 again. The balance announcment is OFF by default.

Dialling 907 will turn the low credit announcement ON. Through your online account management, you can set your low credit limit. This means that if your credit falls below the limit you will hear a low credit announcement before connecting to a call. To turn the low credit announcement OFF, simply dial 907 again. The low credit announcment is OFF by default.

 

Make and Recieve PSTN Calls

Users can send and receive calls from PSTN. To receive PSTN calls, simply pick up the phone
receiver (or use hands free) when the analog phone rings. To make a PSTN call, first press *00 (*00
is default. You can change the “PSTN Access Code” via the web configuration screen) to get the
PSTN line dial tone and then dial the PSTN number you want to call.

 

Transfer Calls

Assuming that call party A and party B are talking to each other on the phone. Party A wants to
transfer party B to party C:

1. Party A presses FLASH or R (on the analog phone, or Hook Flash for old model phones) to get a dial
tone.
2. Then party A dials *87 then dials party C’s Northway VoIP account number, and then # (or wait for 4 seconds)
3. Party A can hang up the phone.

 

3-Way Conference Call

Assuming that call party A called party B, and now they are in conversation. Party A wants to let party
C to attend the conversation:


1. Party A presses FLASH, or R (on the analog phone, or Hook Flash for old model phones) to get a dial
tone.
2. Party A then dials *23, then press party C’s Northway VoIP account number then # (or wait for 4 seconds). Party A and party C now are in conversation.
3. Party A presses FLASH again, now the 3 parties are all in conversation.


Calling other VoIP Networks


Using a VoIP Phone, you can always call any other VoIP phone that's not registered with Northway VoIP by dialling their SIP address like so: UserID@voipdomain.com. This may be hard to do with most phones so Northway VoIP also provides some prefix codes that you can dial just before a User's ID to call them across another provider's network.

Manage my Voicemail


You FREE Northway VoIP voicemail service provides you with the following features:


• Different types of greetings (unavailable, busy, name only).
• Email notification of new messages. The notification message will include the voice message as a .wav attachment file.
• Ability to organize messages into folders.
• Password protected mailboxes.


How do I set up my Voice Mailbox?

Your Voicemail will be set up by default with your Northway VoIP Password as your Voicemail PIN. It is advisable to change your Voicemail PIN by logging in and modifying you account details.


How do I access my Voice Mailbox?

From a VoIP Phone: Dial 9200 to access your Mailbox. You will be prompted for voicemail mailbox number, this is your 7 digit voip account number. You will then be prompted to enter you voicemail password. (Make sure the Voicemail PIN you enter is numeric).

From a PSTN phone: You can also access your Voice Mailbox by dialing 0845 004 9200 or +44(0)20 7043 9200 from any phone. Follow the details as above by entering your voicemail mailbox number and password.

How do I change my greeting?


To change your greeting, access your mailbox and then press 0 to access your mailbox options. You will then have the following options:
Press 1 to record your unavailable message
Press 2 to record your busy message
Press 3 to record your name
Press 4 to record your temporary greeting
Please note that voicemails older than 14 days will be automatically deleted.

 

FAQ's

What type of phone can i use?

You can use any standard telephone to use with the VoIP adpater.

What happens when i run out of credit?

When your balance run's low you will be notified via the "low credit announcement" if this is turned on. When placing a call you will be notifed that your credit is running low. You can then top up your credit online.

How do i know when i have recieved a voicemail?

You will recieve an email with the voicemail attached as a .wav file which you will be able to play back through your PC. by default the email will be sent to the email used to register the Northway VoIP account. You can change the email address in the "manage voicemail" section.

How do i route my VoIP phone number?

To divert calls to your VoIP phone number to a different phone (eg a mobile) simply select "external number" in the manage account section and enter in the number including the full county and area code. Then when someone calls you, the call will automatically be diverted to the epecified external number. To move the number back to your VoIP account, simply select "To Northway VoIP Account".

How do i use my new VoIP adapter with my existing telephone number?

You can connect your VoIP adapter to your standard telephone line using the "line" port on the side of the adapter. When this is connected to your telephone socket or micro-filter you will also be able to receive calls on your existing telephone number.

To make an outgoing call on your existing telephone line simply dial *00 before making your call.

What is 3-way calling?

3-way calling is where you can configure 3 extensions to ring at the same time when calling 1 incoming number. You must have more than 1 extension registered with Northway VoIP to be able to use this service and request to have this feature enabled. Once enabled you will be able to select which Northway VoIP account you require.
To configure 3-way calling you will first need to login using the fields above click here to go to the top of the page and login.

Once logged in you will be presented with all of the VoIP accounts that are currently configured within your user account.

You then need to edit the account you would like to use as the incoming number.

You will then be presented with the following options:


As you can see above you need to select Configure Three Call and then select the accounts you wish to become part of the ring group. This feature will work with a minimum of two accounts.
